This series follows a young Black man who carries both the melanin of his being and the regalia of culture and identity. Clad in his agbada and African hat, he moves through terrains, symbolic and literal: grass, rock, and water, reflecting on self, heritage, and place. Each step is a meditation, a negotiation between pride in identity and the challenges of unfamiliar landscapes. The bag in his hand marks him as a journeyman, an immigrant navigating spaces foreign to all that he is. Yet within these moments, he finds refuge: a space to be, to reenergize, and to exist fully. Shot in black and white, these portraits document not just a body or a face, but a story of becoming, at once grounded in culture, conscious of the world, and tenderly self-aware.
